The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up (Recommended Reads)
Now here was a book I had a hard time rating. Three months on – it stands among those, that I definitely recommend. Having read the contrasting reviews myself before starting and just having finished the book, I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about it.
The positives were from people for whom they felt their lives were changed. Ultimately, it is a highly recommended book from someone who I think it is fair to say is an expert in that field. The criticisms…some of the statements, concepts, language used were described in various ways as being surreal to say the least.
Admittedly, I did not apply all the principles as they are outlined in the book. Some of the ‘essentials’ according to the ‘Konmari’ method, I didn’t utilise. Yet despite this, the book had motivated me enough to have a full clear-out and manage to get rid of 5 bags of things that previously just sat there. It motivated me enough to take on a different approach – and so far it’s been working. Sure, my method isn’t the same…yet I think it is fair to say that even so it has had lasting results.
However strange, unusual, dramatic and exaggerated elements of it were, how I ultimately rate this book is based on the impact it had, and the fact that some of what she explained in the book still resonates when I approach tidying.
I am far from where I want to be in my life regarding keeping organised and tidying, yet I think it is fair to that it has delivered in some way as to doing what it says on the cover. Life-changing?
I suppose the best way to find out would be for you to read, and see if it is so for yourself.
